Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Updated: Sep 28, 2022

What exactly is trust? We use that word a lot but what does it really mean to trust and are we fully trusting in the Lord?

To trust we must have a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. So, to break it down, when it comes to trusting God that means firmly believing in His reliability, His Word (truth), His ability, and His strength. Trust comes before we can even move on to relying on God. We need to start out trusting God and trusting Him completely.

This trust must be with all of our heart. Not part, not some, not I will trust Him today and trust myself tomorrow but with all of our heart. As we get to know who God is, we discover how deserving of trust He is. Let’s face it. Sometimes trusting can feel unnerving. To trust you must be open. Open to whatever God has in mind and what He has in mind is all good. That is what we have to keep in our mind.

We also cannot depend on our own understanding. Our understanding can get us into big trouble. I can speak for myself and say that my misunderstandings have caused me to have some heartaches and have to learn some huge lessons. Since we don’t always have the correct understanding or the full understanding, we need God to help with having His perspective. We cannot give space for any perspective that does not align with our faith in God. To trust you must have faith in God because He has the right perspective.

Sudden twists and bumpy turns

Falling downs and rising ups

Joyous peace and peaceful joy

Spirit high, spirit fly

I have my place in God

The Most High in whom I trust

En route to paradise

Divinely footed in my quest for life
