This verse has me pondering why would it bring honor for a person to keep from contention? For one thing it shows you are a person of maturity. It takes a mature person to hold their peace. It can be tough. I know I have had my challenges of biting my tongue. It is especially hard when there has been an injustice done. That really upsets me. No one likes to feel like they have been wronged. I do not like someone to come against my character. No one likes to be defamed. No one liked be feel disrespected. But there is good news.
I believe that God will help you and keep you from making a fool of yourself. Sometimes we can be quick to react instead of slowing down and think before we speak. It may be beneficial for us to count to ten. Give space to simmer down, be stable with our feelings and thoughts and then respond in the way that is right.
In the heat of the moment, we can say and do something really stupid things. I am guilty. It takes one second to say something that can take a lifetime to mend. God is all about unity. Even when out temperaments do not align because let’s face it, some personalities get along better than others do. That is all okay because then we get a chance for God to work the work in us that is needed. We have to work on being one body as believes. Operating together. The same like a married couple. It is work. It is doable. We can be one. Think about it. We are the body of Christ. We are His body. We should be doing all we can to functioning as one.
How does this happen? Prayer. Prayer is always the answer. We have to take everything we can to God in prayer. God wants us to talk to Him. He wants us to communicate with Him. Prayer changes things and prayer changes people.
Back and forth
Our voices rising
Heated exchange
Time to take a halt
Get things right
Harmony is in order
Today is the day
All of the rage gone
We are new and free
